XX Meeting of COM/CITEL will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from December 3 to 5, 2008 |
PCC.II met for the first time since August 1994 in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, from April 30 to May 3, 1996.
This meeting proved that the committee has found new vitality and enthusiasm in the transformation of the broadcasting industry resulting from the evolution of new technology and the merging of computers, telecommunications and information technologies.
The new Chairman, Mr. Ralph Zeitoun of Canada, led the effort to direct PCC.II to address issues that have an impact on the day-to-day operations in member countries.
The meeting started with a one day seminar on Direct-to the -Home satellite services which drew great enthusiasm from the participants. A working group was established to plan an entirely new program of activities for PCC.II.
The working group, chaired by José Gregorio González, from Venezuela, within the next few months will be proposing the new program which will be considered in Trinidad and Tobago in February 1997 at the next meeting of the committee.
Worldspace, an Associate member of PCC.II, has pledged an additional $5000 for the work of PCC.II.
REMINDER: The preparatory session for the Meeting of Senior Telecommunications Officials (STO)-July 31 to August 2, 1996 In the last bulletin, the scheduling of a preparatory session to initiate the necessary documentation for the STO Meeting was announced. This preparatory meeting will be held at the OAS headquarters in Washington.
